Workshop #1:
Suicide and Crisis Intervention for Substance Abuse Professionals
This workshop will provide participants with information on the basics of crisis intervention focusing on identification of a crisis, ethical and legal issues, procedures for effective intervention, and special populations in treatment related to crisis need in substance abuse treatment

Workshop #2:
Case management and Continuum of Care in Substance Abuse Treatment
This workshop will provide participants with information regarding the management of substance abuse treatment cases from screening to discharge. A review of the documentation process of substance abuse cases to include screening, assessment, developing progress notes as well as referral and discharge. Participants in this session will participate in experiential learning regarding workshop content.

Workshop #3:
The Addiction Client Part I: Signs and Symptoms of Substance Use
This workshop will introduce participants to the signs and symptoms of substance use. A review of the various classifications of drugs, withdrawal symptoms associated with each classification of drug and intervention strategies to screen for drug usage (e.g. urine drug screens, oral swabs etc) will be reviewed.

Workshop #4:
The Addiction Client Part II: The Recovery Process and Relapse Prevention
This workshop will expand on information gained from Part I of this series by introducing participants to the recovery models of addiction, models of relapse prevention and the recovery process. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in experiential learning focused on relapse prevention planning.

Workshop #5:
The Addiction Professional Part I: Professional Identity in the Provision of Addiction Treatment
This workshop will introduce participants to the role of the substance abuse professional in addiction treatment. Basic characteristics of addiction treatment will be discussed which include the focus of addiction treatment, the role of the client, practice dimensions and a review of the substance abuse counseling relationship will be facilitated.
*This 2-day workshop is combined with workshop #6 for a total of 20 contact hours
Workshop #6:
The Addiction Professional Part II: Ethical Issues and Confidentiality
This workshop will review ethical and confidentiality obligations of the addiction professional as well as investigate specific issues that may arise throughout the provision of substance use services.
*This 2-day workshop is combined with workshop #5 for a total of 20 contact hours
Workshop #7:
Treatment Planning and Treatment Approaches in Addiction Treatment
This workshop will examine the process of treatment plan development and case conceptualizations. Participants will be introduced to the various styles of treatment planning and the role counseling theory plays in treatment plan development. Participants will participate in experiential learning focused on treatment plan development in this workshop

Workshop #8:
Group Counseling and Recovery Groups in Addiction Treatment
This workshop will educate participants on the planning and implementation of treatment groups for substance abuse consumers. A review of group dynamics, benefits to this form of treatment and challenges to the group process will be facilitated. Additionally a review of community based (recovery groups) will also be examined.
